In 2022, $3.75 billion in financial aid went unclaimed by the high school graduating class of 2021. You may be considering education beyond high school. If that is the case, money is available to help you on your journey through grants, scholarships, work-study funds and loans, and the government awards this money to students based on their needs.
February is a great time to fill out your FAFSA because it’s Financial Aid Awareness Month, but who should fill out a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)? Any student, regardless of income, who wants to be considered for federal, state and school financial aid programs. The average amount awarded is around $4,477, and filling out the form should take less than an hour if you have what you need. That includes:
- A verified account username and password (FSA ID)
- Your parent or spouse contributor’s name, date of birth, social security number and email address
- Income and asset information (if required)
