2015 Year End Wrap-Up

It’s hard to believe that the year is coming to an end.  Boy, how the time does fly by.  End the year on the right note by reviewing our list of things to be sure to do before ringing in the new year.

Make Charitable Contributions

Clean out those closets to make room for new clothing or household items but remember to make a list of items you are donating to charity.  Remember that items must be in good used condition or better to be tax deductible.  Donors must get a written acknowledgement from the charity for all gifts worth $250 or more.  It must include a description of the item(s) contributed.

Thinking of making a monetary donation?  The IRS has changed a few tax law provisions in recent years so be sure to follow their guidelines.

Contribute To Your Retirement Fund

Workers can generally contribute up to $18,000 in pretax dollars into a 401(k) plan this year, plus an extra $6,000 if they are 50 or older.  Don’t want to contribute a lump sum to your employer’s 401(k) plan.  Open up a Traditional IRA or ROTH IRA Certificate at Solidarity.  Check out our rates!

Give Your Child or Grandchild the Gift of Education

Instead of giving your loved one a gift that might be pushed in a drawer after a few uses invest in their future.  Indiana’s College Choice 529 Investment Plan allows you to make contributions into an investment account for higher education expenses.  For more information visit

We hope you find the above information useful.  From our family to yours, Happy Holidays!
