A Solidarity check card is the perfect substitute for carrying that old fashioned checkbook. Not only do you have the security of paying for items with a VISA protected card, but you also have the freedom to make purchases just like you would with your standard check. The difference is, you only have to carry a tiny credit card and you don't have to fill out a check -- you simply need to remember a PIN and learn how to use one of those easy-to-use debit machines you see everywhere.

Solidarity has placed security restrictions on Checking/ATM Cards outside the United States, due to increased fraudulent activity.  Because of this, you will no longer be able to use your Checking/ATM Cards outside of the United States.  Since your credit union and its members have become subject to losses, due to fraudulent plastic card activity, it has become necessary to institute these restrictions outside of the United States.  This restriction does not apply to credit cards, only Checking/ATM Cards.

Now, if you're into security, any Solidarity check card can be a lot safer. Verified by VISA is a program that not only protects your online purchases; it protects your identity and credit.  How?  By using your Solidarity VISA online at specific retailers, you're asked for your Verified by VISA username and password. If someone steals your card and tries to buy something online at select retailers, they won't be able to use your card. Neat huh?

You can start using Verified by VISA now. Once past the prior link, look for the Verified by VISA link and you're nearly done. After that, it's as simple as spotting the "Activate Now" link located on the right side of the page. (Note: be sure to input only the Solidarity primary account holder's information. Otherwise, VISA will not know who is trying to activate the card and it may cause problems.)

Once you've walked through the steps, you have your new password, and read the billing rights and fraud detection info, you're good to go. When you run into an online retailer that requires a Verified by VISA password, your identity will be verified and the transaction will be completed.  In stores that are not yet participating in the Verified by VISA program, your Visa card will continue to work as usual.
